PLASTIC HEART: A DIY Fieldguide for Reducing the Environmental Impact of Art Exhibitions

The exhibition Plastic Heart at the Art Museum at the University of Toronto proposed an alternative method of exhibition development and presentation that addressed ecology and sustainability in content and form. This experimental exhibition aimed to limit its carbon and waste impact, from restricting the travel of artworks, to re-using existing museum infrastructure and displays, hand-printing labels with natural inks and offcuts, and leaving walls unpatched and unpainted. This fieldguide is a document of our process, and a snapshot of our ever evolving process of low-tech, low-carbon exhibition making.
